Abdominal Strain
Abdominal muscle strains are injuries that occur due to acute injury or chronic overuse/overload. These injuries are commonly seen in larger muscle groups including the obliques and rectus abdominis and are often associated with activities including golf, lacrosse, tennis, and excessive intense exercise. Recovery from muscle strains varies between 2 to 8 weeks depending on the severity of injury. Following an evaluation, your physical therapist will work with you to establish a treatment plan that gets you back to performing at your best.
Athletic pubalgia (more commonly known as a sports hernia) is a constellation of symptoms including achiness or pain that occurs in the lower abdomen, groin, or pelvic floor associated with exertional exercise. Sports hernia recovery is variable in nature however treatment often includes a period of activity modification, symptom management, core strengthening, relevant mobility/stretching, and a gradual return to activity that is symptom limiting. Following an evaluation, your physical therapist will work with you to establish a treatment plan that gets you back to performing at your best.
